Colonel Harland David Sanders is an American businessman best known for inventing the fast food chicken restaurant Kentucky Fried Chicken (commonly known as KFC) and later serving as its brand ambassador and emblem. His name and likeness are still associated with the firm. The term "colonel" is an honorific title given by the Commonwealth of Kentucky to its highest ranking official, the Kentucky Colonel, and is not a military rank. By issuing letters patent, the Governor of Kentucky bestows the distinction of a colonel's commission.
