December 16
The 16th of December is an important day for India, as well as its neighbours Bangladesh and Pakistan. In 1971, India defeated Pakistan in a war that resulted in the formation of Bangladesh. Pakistan lost half of its territory, as well as its military in the east, and was forced to officially surrender to India. It was also the largest military surrender since WWII. Pakistan conducted air strikes on 11 Indian airbases, sparking the conflict. It was maybe the first time that India's three military battled in unity. The conflict concluded when Pakistan's commander-in-chief, General Amir Abdullah Khan Niazi, surrendered with 93,000 men to the united forces of the Indian Army and Bangladesh's Mukti Bahini.
