Michel de Notredame, also known as Nostradamus, was born in the south of France in December 1503. His family was Jewish, but he converted to Catholicism at a time of religious intolerance and bigotry. Both of his grandfathers were intellectuals who taught Nostradamus when he was small. One grandfather was a doctor. He was taught classical languages by the other. Nostradamus was a physician as well as an astrologer. Today, Nostradamus is most known for his forecasts of future events. In 1554, Nostradamus began work on Centuries. The next year, the first seven volumes were released.
