Sharmila Tagore is a former Indian actress who was born on December 8, 1944. Tagore is most recognised for her contributions to Hindi and Bengali film, for which she has won two National Film Awards, a Filmfare Award, and the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award. She was awarded the Padma Bhushan, India's third highest civilian honour, in 2013 for her contributions to Indian culture via the performing arts. Tagore was born into the renowned Tagore family, one of Calcutta's most powerful families and a pivotal figure during the Bengali Renaissance.
