Great guru, the fifth spiritual successor in Bhagwan Swaminarayan's succession of Gunatit gurus, was born on December 7, 1921, in the hamlet of Chansad, near Vadodara, to a farmer's family. Shantilal was his given name as a youngster. And, true to his name, peace was the way he introduced himself. Pujya Pramukh Swami Maharaj is Bhagwan Swaminarayan's sixth spiritual successor and the current head of Bochasanwasi Shri Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha. At the age of 18, he abandoned the world and was initiated by Shastriji Maharaj, who called him Narayanswarupdas Swami. His remarkable humility, honourable acts, saintliness, and altruistic desire to assist others garnered him universal adoration.
