Ramaswamy Venkataraman, born 4 December 1910, was an Indian lawyer, independence campaigner, and politician who served as a Union Minister and as India's eighth president. Venkataraman was born in the hamlet of Rajamadam in the Tanjore district of Madras Presidency. He studied law and worked as a lawyer in the Madras High Court and the Supreme Court of India. He was a participant in the Indian independence struggle and took part in the Quit India Movement when he was young.
