Rajendra Prasad, born on December 3, 1884, was an Indian independence campaigner, lawyer, academic, and, later, the country's first president, serving from 1950 to 1962. He was a trained lawyer and politician from India. During the Indian Independence Movement, Prasad joined the Congress and rose to prominence as a significant leader from the Bihar area of Maharashtra. Prasad, a Mahatma Gandhi devotee, was imprisoned by the British in 1942. Prasad served in the federal government as Minister of Food and Agriculture after the constituent assembly elections in 1946. Prasad was elected President of the Constituent Assembly of India in 1947, which drafted the Indian Constitution and functioned as the country's parliamen
