The Bhopal catastrophe, also known as the Bhopal gas tragedy, occurred on the night of December 2–3, 1984, at the Union Carbide India Limited (UCIL) pesticide facility in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, India, when a gas leak occurred. It is regarded as one of the greatest industrial disasters in history. Methyl isocyanate (MIC) gas was inhaled by over 500,000 persons. The very hazardous chemical found its way into and around the nearby little towns.
