Subhadra Kumari Chauhan was an Indian poet who lived from 16 August 1904 to 15 February 1948. "Jhansi ki Rani" is one of her most well-known poems (about the courageous Queen of Jhansi). Subhadra Chauhan was born in the village of Nihalpur in the Prayagraj District of Uttar Pradesh. She began her education at Allahabad's Crosthwaite Girls' School, where she was senior to and friends with Mahadevi Verma, and graduated in 1919.
