Sri Aurobindo (Aurobindo Ghose; August 15, 1872 – December 5, 1950) was an Indian philosopher, yoga guru, maharishi, poet, and nationalist. He also worked as a journalist, editing publications such as Vande Mataram. He joined the Indian independence movement and was one of its influential leaders until 1910, when he became a spiritual reformer, introducing his visions of human progress and spiritual evolution.
