STS-28 was the 30th NASA Space Shuttle mission, the fourth shuttle mission dedicated to the United States Department of Defense, and Space Shuttle Columbia's eighth flight. The mission launched on August 8, 1989, and travelled 3,400,000 km (2,100,000 mi) around the Earth in 81 orbits before landing on runway 17 at Edwards Air Force Base in California on August 13, 1989.

Chennai Express is a 2013 Indian Hindi-language action comedy film directed by Rohit Shetty and produced by Ronnie Screwvala, Siddharth Roy Kapur, Gauri Khan, and Karim Morani, based on a story by K. Subash and written by Yunus Sajawal, with dialogues by Farhad-Sajid. Samir Subash Naik, an ex-professional footballer from India who played as a defender for Dempo SC and India, was born on August 8, 1979. He is currently the Goa Professional League's Dempo SC's head coach. Bengali polymath Rabindranath Tagore (7 May 1861 – 7 August 1941) was a poet, playwright, writer, composer, philosopher, social reformer, and painter. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, he used contextual modernism to transform Indian art, Bengali literature, and music. Author of Gitanjali's "profoundly sensitive, fresh, and beautiful" poetry, he won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1913, becoming the first non-European and the first lyricist to do so.

Kane Stuart Williamson (born August 8, 1990) is a New Zealand international cricketer and the current captain of the New Zealand national team across all formats. He bats right-handed and bowls off spin on occasion. In December 2007, Williamson made his first-class debut. The same year, he made his U-19 debut against the visiting Indian U-19 team and was named captain of the New Zealand U-19 team for the 2008 U-19 Cricket World Cup.
