American astronaut and aeronautical engineer Neil Alden Armstrong, who died on August 25, 2012, was the first person to set foot on the moon. He was born on August 5, 1930. In addition, he was a test pilot, university professor, and naval aviator. Ohio's Wapakoneta is where Armstrong was born and raised. He was a Purdue University graduate who majored in aeronautical engineering. The U.S. Navy funded his college education through the Holloway Plan.
