As one of NASA's Original Seven Mercury Astronauts, Lieutenant Colonel Virgil Ivan "Gus" Grissom has been a member of the American human space program since its inception in 1959. He achieved the distinction of being the first man to go into space twice with his second space mission on Gemini III.

Meena Kumari was an Indian actress and poet who appeared in Hindi films. She was born Mahjabeen Bano on August 1, 1933, and she died on March 31, 1972. She was active between 1939 and 1972 and was dubbed "The Tragedy Queen." Critics referred to Hindi film actress Kumari as "historically incomparable." Bal Gangadhar Tilak, also known as Lokmanya, was an Indian nationalist, educator, and independence activist. He was born Keshav Gangadhar Tilak on July 23, 1856, and died on August 1, 1920. He made up a third of the trio that comprised Lal Bal Pal. The movement for Indian independence was founded by Tilak.
