Daniel Michael Blake (Sir) Day-Lewis (born 29 April 1957) is a retired English actor. He was often described as one of the preeminent actors of his generation, and he received numerous accolades throughout his four-decade career, including three Academy Awards for Best Actor, making him the first and only actor to have three wins in that category, and the third male actor to win three competitive Academy Awards for acting, ranking him sixth overall. He has also won two Golden Globes, three Screen Actors Guild Awards, and four British Academy Film Awards. Day-Lewis was knighted in 2014 for his contributions to drama.
