Nelle Harper Lee was born in Monroeville, Alabama on April 28, 1926. Lee's father was a lawyer who also served in the Alabama State Legislature. Her mother was mentally ill and spent much of her time inside the house. Harper Lee is the Pulitzer Prize-winning author of To Kill a Mockingbird. The novel quickly became a best-seller across the world and was made into an Academy Award-winning film in 1962. Despite the fact that Harper's contribution to literature has been restricted to one work, she has accomplished what many writers can only hope for after penning volumes.
