The National Defence College (NDC), headquartered in New Delhi, is India's premier educational institution for the study and practise of national security and strategy. It was founded in 1960 and has since garnered a reputation for quality and international fame. It is committed to the intellectual growth and strategic enculturation of chosen senior officers from India's military forces and civilian government services, as well as those from other nations, in preparation for greater leadership roles and responsibilities. The historic event was scheduled for 10 a.m. on Wednesday, April 27, 1960. While inaugurating the College, the Prime Minister delivered his famous phrase, which became the College's motto.
