Amilcare, Benito Andrea Mussolini was an Italian politician and journalist who founded and led the National Fascist Party from 29 July 1883 to 28 April 1945. From the March on Rome in 1922 until his deposition in 1943, he was Prime Minister of Italy, and "Duce" of Italian Fascism from the establishment of the Italian Fasces of Combat in 1919 until his execution by Italian partisans in 1945. Mussolini and his mistress Clara Petacci left for Chiavenna in the afternoon of April 27, 1945, in the town of Dongo (Lake Como), shortly before the Allied army arrived in Milan. They were apprehended, however, by Italian communist partisans. After repeated failed attempts to transport them to Como, they were transported to Mezzegra. They spent their final night at the De Marias' home.
