The First Battle of Panipat was fought between Babur's soldiers and Ibrahim Lodhi's forces. The battle took place on April 21, 1526. The employment of artillery by Babur's army aided their success in the conflict. Lodi forces were lacking in artillery expertise, and the sound of canons spooked the Lodi war elephants. From 1517 until 1527, the Sultanate was ruled by Ibrahim Lodi, a superb warrior but an undiplomatic monarch. The First Battle of Panipat ended in Ibrahim Lodi's death, as well as the end of the Lodi Dynasty and the Delhi Sultanate in India. In addition, with the collapse of the Sultanate, Mughal rule in India started.
