James Edward Franco was born in Palo Alto, California, on April 19, 1978, to Betsy Lou Verne, a writer and actor from an immigrant Russian Jewish family, and Douglas Eugene Franco, a Silicon Valley businessman of Portuguese and Swedish origin.
