Anju Bobby George is a retired Indian athlete who was born on April 19, 1977. Anju Bobby George made history by winning the bronze medal in long jump at the 2003 World Athletics Championships in Paris. She became the first Indian athlete to win a medal in a World Championships in Athletics by jumping 6.70 metres. She went on to win gold at the IAAF World Athletics Final (a competition between the best eight athletes in the world based on world ranking) in 2005, which she considers her best performance. Following the disqualification of Tatyana Kotova of Russia, Anju was promoted to gold from silver in the 2005 World Athletics Final in Monte Carlo.
