Akon was born Aliaume Damala Badara Akon Thiam on April 16, 1973, in St. Louis, Missouri, USA, to traditional jazz musician Mor Thiam and dancer Kine Thiam. Akon is a Senegalese-American rapper, singer, songwriter, record producer, businessman, and actor. He is of Senegalese origin. He rose to notoriety in 2004 with the publication of his debut album 'Trouble,' which included the song 'Locked Up.' Born into a musical family of African musicians, he has always been thankful to his family's musical history for paving the path for his success in the American music industry.
