Guru Nanak founded Sikhism, one of the world's youngest religions. Guru Nanak was the first Sikh Guru, and his spiritual teachings provided the groundwork for Sikhism. Guru Nanak, regarded as a religious pioneer, travelled throughout South Asia and the Middle East to promote his teachings. He preached the presence of a single God and taught his followers that via meditation and other religious practises, every human being may reach out to God. Nanak was reared by his parents, Mehta Kalu and Mata Tripta, in a middle-class Hindu family. He spent the most of his youth with his older sister, Bebe Nanaki, whom he adored.
