Maya Angelou, born Marguerite Annie Johnson, was an American poet, memoirist, and civil rights activist who lived from April 4, 1928 to May 28, 2014. She wrote seven autobiographies, three books of essays, and several books of poetry, and she is credited with over 50 plays, movies, and television shows. She was the recipient of dozens of awards and more than 50 honorary degrees. Angelou is best known for her seven autobiographies, which focus on her childhood and adolescent years. Carl Friedrich Benz, also known as Karl Friedrich Benz, was a German engine designer and automotive engineer who lived from 25 November 1844 to 4 April 1929. His 1885 Benz Patent Motorcar is regarded as the first practical automobile and the first car to be mass-produced. In 1886, he received a patent for the motorcar. Benz & Cie., based in Mannheim, was the world's largest automobile plant at the time. It merged with Daimler Motoren Gesellschaft in 1926 to form Daimler-Benz, which manufactures the Mercedes-Benz and other brands. Benz is widely regarded as the "Father of the Automobile" and the "Father of the Automobile Industry." Karl Benz died on April 4, 1929, at the age of 84, in his house in Ladenburg, of a bronchial inflammation.
