Ranjitsinhji, the king of Nawanagar State and one of the best batters in cricket history, was born on September 10, 1872, in Sadodar, Nawanagar State, Kathiawar. He died on April 2, 1933, and was also known as the Maharaja Jam Sahib of Nawanagar. He played 15 Tests in his career, amassing 989 runs with a batting average of 44.95. In 500 first-class innings, he scored 24,693 runs at an average of 56.37. He struck 72 tonnes with 14 double centuries. Ranjitsinhji, who took over as king of Jamnagar on March 11, 1907, lost an eye in a shooting in 1915. He died on April 2, 1933, after a brief illness.
