The average global temperature crossed a threshold of two degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels for the first time on Friday. The European Union's Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) noted that Friday's temperature was also 1.17 degrees above normal when compared to a 30-year reference period from 1991 to 2020.
