Divers have discovered 13 shark teeth in an inland sinkhole in central Mexico and the discovery supports the anthropologists' theories that Maderia was once under the sea. A total of fifteen dental fossils were recovered with 13 believed to belong to 3 different shark species including a megalodon that existed over 2.5 million years ago. Megalodon is one of the largest and most powerful predators in vertebrate history.
