The hypothesis was first proposed in 1971, claiming that a black hole could not shrink in size over time. Data from gravitational waves released when two black holes fused into one were used in the study, which was led by an astrophysicist from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. According to the calculations, the combined black hole's total surface area was greater than the sum of the two smaller black holes.
