Over 30 northern US states witnessed the northern lights, commonly known as the aurora borealis on Monday, illuminating the night sky with a brilliant show of colour. According to the NOAA's Space Weather Prediction Centre, this is because of a geo magnetic storm that was focused on Earth. The solar wind, a continuous stream of charged particles emitted by the sun, interacts with the magnetic field of the Earth to produce the northern lights.
