A Japanese government agency has urged its government to release radioactive water from the devastated Fukushima nuclear plant into the environment, as storage space is now running out. The plant went through a meltdown almost nine years ago after it was hit by an earthquake-triggered tsunami. Now, approximately a million tons of contaminated water has piled up since then and the tanks containing it are almost full.
