Arctic sea ice in Siberia has not yet started freezing in late October for the first time. Climate scientists suggest the cause of delayed freezing in the Laptev sea due to protracted warmth in Russia and intrusion of Atlantic waters. They also warn of possible knock-on effects across the polar region. Ocean temperatures in the area have jumped up to over 5C above average after the record-breaking heatwave.
