Cervical cancer elimination day of action 2022: India will soon introduce HPV vaccination, says WHO

India will soon introduce the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination to eliminate cervical cancer as a public health problem, said Dr Poonam Khetrapal Singh, WHO Regional Director for South-East Asia. Globally, cervical cancer is the fourth most common cancer among women, with an estimated 604000 new cases and 342000 deaths in 2020, of which the Region accounted for 32 per cent and 34 per cent, respectively.
