Astronomers have discovered the first evidence of a river on Mars that existed for more than 100,000 years. Permanent marks from exposed cliff faces more than 650ft high suggest the river was a deep, fast-flowing torrent of water which existed year-round. It further proves Mars had plenty of liquid water once and a stable atmosphere to support life around 3.7 billion years ago when solar system was in its infancy.
