Must Watch Art Films
Artistic cinema is that branch of films that are created for a specific audience. They are often released in film festivals, international or national. Unlike popular belief, India is a hub of rich artistic cinema that springs from across its diverse corners. They bring into them diverse cultures, heritage, stories, ideas and struggles. While they have a less audience their quality is not one bit sacrificed, if anything, in many aspects they are better than the mainstream Bollywood. Here are some must watch Indian art films. Evening Shadows
Evening Shadows is a universal story about a mother-son bonding and its emotional strength to withstand the ravages of time and harsh realities. Its beauty lies in its romantically designed script that reflects realistic experiences. The movie travelled around 72 International film festivals and has won24 awards.
Bulbul
While Bulbul in itself is not an art film, it is created with the flair and understanding of one. It explores gorgeously, a tale of injustice and revenge. It is far from a mainstream film both in its creation and its release.
Time Out
Time Out explored the reality of supposed liberal parents who are blown off their conceals when their perfect son comes out to them. A coming of age story explores complicated relationships, friendships, joys of youngness and self-discovery. While not a perfect film in itself, it is a good attempt at a revelation.
Parched
An artful look into the lives of rural women, Parched is a compelling story of how women struggle to live their basic right. Pressure for childbirth, prostitution, patriarchy and misogyny this film is exceptional in every sense.
Charulata
Charulata holds one of the highest ratings for an Indian film in Rotten Tomatoes, a 96% 'fresh' rating based on 26 reviews with an average rating of 9.2/10 It also holds an 8.3/10 rating on IMDb. It has been widely regarded as one of the finest films made in Indian cinema history and has won wide critical acclaim overseas as well.
Suraj Ka Saatva Ghoda
The narrative style adds to the abstractness; the film is presented as a flashback of a contemporary artist, Shyam (played by Raghuvir Yadav). He remembers the many stories narrated by Mulla, a born raconteur during their gossip sessions with two of their mutual friends.
Manthan
The word Manthan literally means "churning", and other meanings may be deep contemplation etc. Upon its release, truckloads of farmers came to see "their" film, thus making it a box office success. Mathan is an exemplary work of contemplation.
