5 INDIAN WINES TO DRINK
It seems that Indian consumers are ready to experiment with different styles. Friends, on the other hand, complain that there appears to be a general lack of information about new and exciting wines coming from India, making it difficult to source the right kind of wines for pouring and gifting. Fratelli Gran Cuvee Brut
Fratelli is India's most dry and sparkling wine, with a delicate and creamy finish. It goes well with cheesy pasta or risotto. You can also drink it on its own. It tastes like heaven and is one of the best Indian wines.
Myra Reserve Shiraz
A premium reserve, barrel selection made from mature Shiraz vines. A wine with a full body and lifted aromas of white pepper, black mulberries, and vanilla oak. It is still relatively easy to drink and elegant. It is abundant in fruit, which most Indians enjoy, and it is also reasonably priced.
Krsma Sangiovese
Krsma, a boutique winery near Bangalore founded by Krishna Prasad and Uma Chigurupati (he has been making wine since he was 17, she is a microbiologist), has some excellent offerings, the best of which is their version of the sangiovese with its spice and nut notes.
Charosa Selections Sauvignon Blanc
In the last two years, some of the smaller, boutique wineries have produced some very interesting wines. Charosa, based in Nashik, appears to be good with whites, offering a good Viognier and a great sauvignon blanc if you're so inclined.
Fratelli Sangiovese Bianco
Sangiovese bianco is unique in that it is a white wine made from red grapes (only two other wineries do this apparently in the world). It has the structure of a red, but it is still light and crisp.
