Magawa, a landmine-sniffing rat, has finally retired. After helping to save lives by detecting landmines in Cambodia, a huge African rat known as the "hero rat" retires after 5 years of hard labour. He helped clear 225,000 square metres of ground and has discovered 71 mines and 38 unexploded munitions in his career. Magawa was also the first rat to obtain a Gold Medal, which is the equivalent of the George Cross for animals.
