Astronomers headed by Dan Wilkins of Stanford University saw bursts of X-ray radiation emanating from behind a black hole for the first time & left them in shock. The X-ray flares bounced off the gas entering the black hole, and as the flares faded, the telescopes picked up fainter lights. Black holes bend light rays around themselves due to their gravitational pull, allowing scientists to view what lies behind them for the very first time.
