The temple's Shiva linga was thought to safely house the famed Syamantak Mani, the Philosopher's stone linked with Lord Krishna, within its hollowness. A fun fact is that Galileo and Shakespeare were both born in the same year (1564). The English dramatist was reaching the end of his career when Galileo pointed his telescope to the night sky. But he wasn't quite ready to lay down his pen: his late drama Cymbeline contains what might be a reference to one of Galileo's most important discoveries—the four moons around Jupiter. The deity Jupiter descends from the skies in the last act, and four ghosts dance in a circle around him. It may be a coincidence, or, as I argue in my book The Science of Shakespeare, it could be intentional.

The lifespan of Chinese porcelain is very long. Authentic Chinese porcelain made in the proper proportions of kaolin, quartz, and feldspar is a highly durable and translucent material.

On August 15, 1947, India gained independence from British rule, but the Portuguese refused to relinquish control of Goa. Goa's independence struggle was fought both within and outside the state, and on December 17, 1961, the Indian Army, air force, and naval forces invaded Goa and overpowered the under-prepared Portuguese army. The Portuguese governor officially surrendered on December 18th, and Goa became a part of India the next day! Every year on December 19th, Goa commemorates its second independence day.
