Nirvana worked on four songs for Nevermind at Sound City in Los Angeles during sessions for the album. One of them was "Old Age," a song that the band quickly recorded and then abandoned after adding a guitar overdub. Butch Vig didn't even mix the track. Courtney Love, Cobain's wife, wrote new lyrics and recorded "Old Age" as the B-side to the 1993 single "Beautiful Son" with her band Hole. As the B-side to 1995's "Violet," Hole released a second version of the song.
