Many people argue that candy corn tastes like chicken feed, but that is not how it got its name. George Renninger invented it in the 1880s, and Goelitz Confectionery Company (now Jelly Belly Co.) popularised it around the turn of the century. Because corn was used to feed chickens, the product was dubbed "Chicken Feed," and the box featured a colourful rooster.
