Chicago-based United Airlines is planning to layoff 2,850 pilots from its workforce amid the coronavirus crisis. The number accounts for nearly 21% of the airline's total workforce of pilots. The travel industry is among the most severely hit industries due to the outbreak of the novel coronavirus. Major airlines have asked the US government for another $25 billion to cover employee payroll through March.
