Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) graduates, Anton Peraire-Bueno, 24, and James Peraire-Bueno, 28, have been apprehended by federal prosecutors in Manhattan. The brothers are accused of executing a scheme to exploit the Ethereum blockchain's integrity and steal $25 million worth of cryptocurrency. This audacious heist was carried out in just 12 seconds in April 2023, marking the first time such a fraud has been the subject of US criminal charges.
