According to an unreleased government report, consumer spending in India fell in the year through March 2018 for the first time in at least four decades. As per a survey, each person spent an average of 1,446 rupees in Financial Year 2018, which was 3.7% lower than the 1,501 rupees in Financial Year 2012. The government report, which was approved in June, has been withheld by the statistical office due to “adverse” findings.
