Gas leakage was reported at South Korean company LG Polymers in Visakhapatnam. 11 people reported dead. Nearly 800 hospitalized. The company started in 1961, makes polystyrene.
Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) started to rescue and asked people in nearby areas to vacate the place.
The gas leak took place in a tank with 2,000 metric tons of chemical capacity and spread in a radius of 2.5 km.
The leaked gas is known as Styrene Polymer.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid his condolences to the deceased and chairs a high-level cabinet meeting. He Asked NDMA for a brief report.
Andhra CM visited the patients in the hospital. The government announced Rs.1 crore aid for the families of the deceased.
The forensic team reached the spot. The gas leak was an accident, said experts.
500 kg of Para-tertiary butyl catechol (PTBC) chemical airlifted from Daman by Andhra Pradesh govt for neutralizing the gas leakage.
